Ken Whatling supported by others raised the point that members were complaining our bar prices were too high. This was discussed and as our profit margin still remained good it was decided to change all bar prices back to last seasons prices.
Fixture Secretary report.
Hot Weather
2 Matches were postponed ; 4 Dims v Clevedon Prom and Over 55’s Originals v Burnham.
The Ladies Flower’s League was also postponed and the Men’s Evening League was cancelled(each team receiving 1 point and 7 shot difference).
The 4 Dims will be played at Clevedon Prom on Thursday 16th July and the Over 55’s Originals v Burnham on Wednesday 9th September.
Members were advised by email that the Fixture Diary will always be subject to change as the season progresses with Cup games ,postponements .
The most accurate guide will always be The Fixture List on the website.
Most recent changes :-
We still have not had confirmation of Avon& Somerset Team numbers for the match on Wednesday 6th July.
If this is cancelled for the 2nd year they will not be offered a match in 2027.
The ladies raised to question of what instructions should be given for hot weather play.This was discussed are the opinion was that we would review the situation on the day, no hard and fast rule could be made.
Mens’ Section Report
A broadly successful month with, after the matches on the 4th July, the A team sitting third in Prem 2 and our B team third in North 2. Winscombe C are currently 4th in North 3.
The A team has the advantage of having a strong pool of players to select from and I have been able to rotate some of our leads and twos. This does not necessarily reflect their performance rather it allows everyone ‘in the squad’ to have the opportunity of playing against strong opposition. An across the board defeat by St Annes’ the League leaders, was followed by two 10/2 successes against Congresbury A and North Petherton A. There have been occasions, as there will always be, where last minute changes are necessary and I am conscious that this impacts Dave Peakall and then cascades down to John Hart. I am grateful for their fortitude and understanding.
In other matches we have:
B Team Captain’s Report. A win on all 4 rinks at Portishead was followed by a points win against Clevedon Prom. The match played against Banwell away on the 4th July resulted in a win on all 3 rinks. Keith Horler has Captained the B team for the last two matches so credit to him.
C Team Report.
Unfortunately we have lost our last two games…at Victoria whilst we won on two rinks, we went down heavily on the third
Loosing the match by 6 shots to the league leaders.
Due to general player unavailability we could not field a strong enough team against Clevedon Prom and lost on all rinks. We are now lying 4th in the league.
Ladies Captain Report.
The ladies games have continued to go well although with mixed results.
Wessex game against Victoria at home on 4 th June was a win by just 5 shots. We gained 7 points thanks to a draw and win on two rinks.
Wessex game against Ashcombe away was a resounding success. A big win gaining 10 points. All three rinks were winners!
The NSTL game against Clevedon at Clevedon was lost by 12 shots. Winscombe ladies gave them a good game but they had the eye of the green! Barbara’s rink won gaining us 2 points.
The next NSTL game against Clarence away was unfortunately a loss overall.
On 1 st july we went to Wedmore for a friendly game. Once again our ladies worked hard to improve their game but sadly we lost. However Chrissies rink won. Well done!
Friday 3 rd July we played against Clevedon at home in the NSTL league. We won by 11 shots gaining 8 points. We were very very pleased with this result.

Wessex League Results up to JUNE 19th

On Saturday 4th July we held a party to celebrate Maureen Sprouting’s 90th Birthday! The President expressed his and the committees thanks.
Estate Report.
The parts have been ordered and should be available for commencement of the work.
It was suggested that before we replace the canopy that the large amount of moss that has accumulated on the tiled roof should be removed at a cost of £1500.
When I looked at this a while back, I agree there was a great deal of moss but since we have had the heavy storm it appears to washed some of the moss away.
Can the committee take a look at this so that I can instruct the roofer to begin the work.
The decision was agreed to not pursue this.
Groundsmen shed
The shed doors are hard to shut and not very secure.
Question – try and repair or get a cost for new ones? This will be investigated.
Yvonne was thanked for the flower border display.
Social. Chris Greenwood will prepare tickets for the Pig Roast event,Yvonne will coordinate the food.
.Welfare. We wish the following Tony Atkinson, Eve Watts,M Howell and Robin Lowis our best wishes.
Correspondence..
Following The Competition secretarys comments it was agreed to revert to the previous programme when all trophies are presented at the Annual Dinner.
AOB.
It was decided that the bar cooler should be left on continuously.
Wilf Ainsworth raised the point that the scoreboards need replacing ,this was agreed and will be planned for next season.
It was agreed that we would present The Madeira BC with a trophy for their Centenary year when we play this year.
Thanks to Peter Shipton for mending our Raffle machine.
Thanks to Darren Kibby for preparing hot dogs and burgers for the Monday evening club.profit will be donated to The Childrens Hoslice.
23 teams are now entered for the Open Triples.
