13th April 2025 – Opening Day President v Captains
This is traditionally The Presidents Day.
More than 70 members had requested to play in the opening game of the season – the Presidents Team v The Captains Team.
It was quite a challenge ,trying to ensure everyone got a game! The President Lew Collier and Club Captain Chris Bryant with Ladies Captain Margaret Howell came up with a novel solution . The match was played with 5 players per rink across 7 rinks.
The game was played over 2 hours with even more members changing places after an hours play.
The result was a convincing win by The President even though the Captain claimed a narrow loss ,winning on two rinks – but he had clearly mis calculated. The shot difference showed an overwhelming win for The President. The Captains will, of course, seek revenge in the Captains Day Fixture on Closing Day!
An excellent Opening Day Supper was held in The Pavilion when 80 members enjoyed the friendly banter and good humoured speeches from both sides.

W/e 2nd March
The Annual Tour to Torquay was well supported once again and everyone was very grateful to Chris Bryant the Tour Organiser.
A good time was had by all.

FEBRUARY 2025
It’s been exciting times at The Club. The village has been buzzing with the news that the BBC were filming a new sitcom starring Dawn French at various locations in the village but centred on our Bowls Club.
The club was transformed into various ‘sets’ including a casino and included a gala evening and karaoke Night. The Men’s changing room became ‘an office’!
Some members were cast as extras playing bowls (in the middle of winter) on our green. I guess there had to be someone playing bowls in the background!
The club, of course, was well paid for it’s use and we hope that every member will benefit from our windfall. In addition we acquired some new window dressing and ‘a tree’! The garden and pots were also ‘tidied up’.
Here are some photos:
