16th September Pioneers (15pts) v Mark Moor (5pts) at Home
Phew, that was close! Pioneers beat Mark Moor on three rinks and drew the fourth. But the match was close with Pioneers winning by 1 shot, 104 to 103 in the final match of the season.
Indeed the home team lost 20 shots across all rinks in the last two ends but just hung on for a win. Wins for skips Dennis Barrington-Light, Mike Nash and Graham Neville and their teams.
“We thrashed ’em” was the cry from captain Lew, definitely tongue in cheek but well done. Although finishing a close last, the form in the second half of the season was much improved.
15th September Over 55’s Knock Out Final played at Yatton BC.
Winscombe Originals 62shots v Victoria Saxons 126 shots.
The Originals suffered a massive defeat by 64 shots to Victoria Saxons in the over 55 W&D Cup Final.
A draw for the triple of Dave Leach, Greg Keenan and Tony Watts, and a narrow 1 shot loss by Martin Mildon, Mike Smart and captain Chris Greenwood were the best results. All the other rinks suffered double figure losses.
That was the last game of a long 20 match campaign for the Originals. Despite the disappointment of the last result it has been a successful season, finishing 4th in the league and runners up in the cup.
Well done to all the players who have represented Winscombe in 2026.

12th September – Ladies v Men
The traditional match for the Mike Roberts Trophy was a fun afternoon which the Men managed to win despite giving the Ladies a 5 shot advantage.
It was good to see Trixie Miles ,cousin of our long serving Pavilion Manager ,Mike Roberts. Pavman was a good bowler and a great character, sorely missed . The trophy is a glass star in Mike’s memory. The now traditional Fish ‘n Chip supper followed the match.
9th September Pioneers (2pts) v Portishead (18pts) away
Pioneers were struggling from the start. Unable to field 18 players they lost one rink before play started. Last minute changes didn’t help either.

10th September v Notts County Tourists
Our friends from Nottingam were on their 93rd Tour to Weston super Mare and Winscombe BC. Sadly numbers were depleted this year and only 4 rinks took to the green.
Captains of the day Lew and Bennie traditionally play each other and with Tom Ellis turning out for the first time this season with Lew,Jim Coleman and Mike Adams -they managed to become the only losing rink for Winscombe.
The traditional Notts choir performed their tour anthem and we look forward to seeing a bigger touring party next year.

The overall score was 50-42 and gave WInscombe 8pts. Captain Yvonne said she was proud of all the players for another winning performance.
4th September Ladies NSTL (0pts) v Ashcombe away (10pts)
Winscombe Ladies were unable to make it three in three days. Travelling to Ashcombe and despite all their efforts the ladies slumped to a defeat in the final competitive match of the season.
Losing on all three rinks and by 24-53 was disappointing, especially so given their previous two wins. Captain Yvonne Greenwood was not dispondent. She said “A loss but well done Winscombe Ladies. You never give up”.

2nd September Originals (2pts) v Clarence Blues (18pts) away.
Winscombe immediately lost a rink being unable to field three players. There was little too cheer across the other rinks losing on 4.
The one bright spot was provided by Skip Mal Dorrington and team. They won their rink by 24-6. Given this dominant win Winscombe actually led over 5 rinks by 3 shots.
With the 10 shot added Winscombe lost 73-80.
3rd September Pioneers (2pts) v Ashcombe Knights (18pts) away.
Winscombe did not travel well to Ashcombe. The Knights took firm control of three rinks by the mid point. The Pioneers were close in the other three but by the end only succeeded on only one rink.
Skip M Nash and team pulled to a three shot win, having been trailing for much of the match. There was no other good news with Ashcombe piling on the shots. The overall score was 64-116.
29th August SCL A Team (2pts) v Weston Bath B(10pts) away
Weston Bath B proved too strong for Winscombe.
A good result for Skip Mike Adams, T Rowe, Chris Greenwood and Tony Watts. Trailing by 4 with two ends to play, they scored 5 shots to win by 1.
Although not completely outgunned the other two rinks were beaten by 6 and 8 to give victory to Weston Bath B.

A good win for Winscombe, winning convincingly on two rings and only just losing on the third. The overall score of 63-34 showed the Ladies dominance in this game.

With three ends to play the Ladies were in with a good chance, winning on two rinks. The match turned on one rink with Clevedon Prom scoring 8 shots to 0 in the last three.

All the Winscombe teams, men and women, appear to be fading in the final three or four ends.
25th August Ladies Wessex(1pt) v Isle of Wedmore(9pts) at Home
Wedmore proved too strong for Winscombe winning on two rinks and drawing the third.
Skip Margaret Howell and team were leading from the start but lost 5 shots on the last three end to tie the rink 18 all.
26th August Pioneers(14pts) v Clarence Gold (6pts) away.
