The Bar figures are distorted due to May purchases not being notified until June.
Transferring of Easy Access money into a Fixed Interest A/C has to be a minimum of £10,000 so we will delay this until January when the existing account matures.
Problems with SumUp reader now sorted by re-programming the log in. New log in details saved in the till.
Fixture Secretary.
Nothing to report on Fixtures apart from the usual occasional cancellations etc.
Open Triples now confirmed at 24 teams. All but one team paid up except Bath where we had a similar problem last season. A stand in reserve team arranged by John Hart just in case.
A pretty good response for volunteers requested by Margaret’s notice. Let’s hope all goes well on the day.
Mens’ Section Report
The ‘A’ Team has continued steadily this last month, winning two games and losing one. As ever, unavailability of key players has played a part but I expect all teams have laboured under the same difficulty.
In the Bowls England Top Club competition we won three disciplines to one, with the other rink drawn, but in the next round we crashed out with an incomplete team by three disciplines to two against Clevedon Prom.
We had a narrow 63 – 61 win at City of Wells in the Turnbull Cup and will face Street in the next round.
In the first leg of the Parrot Shield at home to Banwell we lost by 98 – 104. There is no reason to think we cannot reverse this in the second leg.
Our ‘B’ and ‘C’ Teams are doing quite well in the league under the stewardship of Dave Peakall and Larry Van Haaren.
A mixed friendly was lost against Brixham St Mary’s, I believe a new visitor to our rinks. Mixed friendlies against Avon & Somerset Police and Oxford University Press were won but visitors Pontyclun beat us, as usual.
Cancellation of matches continues, by others, not Winscombe. Keynsham, St Andrews and Taunton Vivary either could not raise full teams or no team at all.
The Originals Over 55s have continued to beat all opposition but the Pioneers Over 55s have struggled for the reason pin-pointed in last month’s report.
On the last day of the month, Winscombe hosted the SBA Junior Singles competition. Unfortunately, the Somerset administration was poor; we had no idea how many players would be involved or the number of ends to be played. At the last minute we were asked to provide markers. Fortunately, our ladies were magnificent in their provision of food. In future, if we are asked to host matches, we must be proactive in the organization of the event and, if information is not forthcoming, we shall have to take a view on the matter.
It was agreed that better coordination was required for such an event in future,Lew Collier agreed to take on this roll when a County event was booked and an action plan with required topics would be drafted at the next meeting by the secretary.
Ladies Captain Report.
We have played 5 NSTL games – won 2, lost 3 (one by only 1 shot) : 4 Wessex League games – won 1, lost 1 and drawn 2. We have also played in 2 mixed friendlies and Chrissie, Yvonne and Lorna have catered for SBA Junior Singles day at the Club.
The Fear cup refreshments charge will be £3.00 per head.
Social Report.
Pig roast confirmed with Nick Hansford, band confirmed.Cost will be £10 per head, and a raffle will be required.
Estate Report. The Sandford Road hedge has been partially trimmed and will be finished at a convenient time and safe time.
Welfare. Nothing to report.
Correspondence. Nothing
AOB. The Captain reported that Closing day catering had been sorted. It was agreed that we would hold a Burns Supper next year on January 25th arranged through the current caterer with Lew Collier being the contact.
